Boomers Affirm Walking for Health and Happiness

Too much sitting is not really great for today’s Healthy Wealthy Boomer.

I don’t know about you but I spend a lot of time working online, reading, and traveling-ugh, sitting.

Sometimes I get up from my seat and my backside is absolutely numb from sitting for hours and I don’t even know where I am for a moment. It’s like I’ve been traveling the world at the speed of thought and I have to re-ground and figure out which airport I’m in. Can anyone relate???

Believe it or not I really do have a remedy for that and it makes me feel sooooo good.

Walking.

I’m going to share a few of my not so secret, secrets with you. Those of you who frequent the Healthy Wealthy Boomers On FaceBook! group know I am a “walking and water” advocate and very verbal about it. From the research I have done and my own experiences, it seems that walking and water solve a lot of potential and real health problems. Not overnight of course, but pretty darn near it!

Far too many of my internet friends are spending more and more time online creating their dreams while ignoring their bodies needs for fresh air, sunshine, and exercise. You can get all those needs met with a two mile or more round trip walk. Yes, getting your daily dose of vitamin D means wearing fewer, lighter clothes and exposing your skin-60%- to the sunlight for forty five minutes to an hour every day. Naturally you may need to wear a cap ( like my green eyed husband who tends to burn the dome….;-)

Also, you’ll want the oxygenation for your blood and brain that comes from walking briskly and breathing deeply, and you will want the toning and overall good feelings that come from getting outside away from the desk while clearing your mind and using your eyes to scan the horizon for the longer views on life. Oh yes, there are so many benefits and I won’t detail them all here.

HOWEVER….;-)

There is one more specific benefit that I have incorporated thanks to a teacher I had long ago-21 years ago to be precise.

When I walk I do “I AM” affirmations.

I AM affirmations are short powerful statements you make claiming all words that describe you as the whole and complete person you are and desire to be just as you would with a vision board or Mind Movie. The thing is you state it and feel the joy and satisfaction of it and you keep a stream going so you have no time to judge or think. You are walking, staying present and connected to your surroundings but making every I AM statement that feels good and right to you and that you aspire to see complete in your life. You put no time, no questions, no how, no details- just the statement of I AM. Smile too!

Examples:

  • I AM woman (wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, cousin, aunt, grandmother, step- mother) (acknowledge yourself!)
  • I AM successful (creative, talented, open minded, inspired, inspiring, authentic)
  • I AM coach ( teacher, trainer, transformational,speaker,author)
  • I AM wealthy (rich, prosperity, prosperous,prospering)
  • I AM compassionate (caring, loving, generous, sharing, encouraging, connected)
  • I AM truth (integrity, honor, loyal, trusted, trusting, reliable)
  • I AM ALL THAT IS
  • I AM THAT I AM
  • I AM Reverent (grateful, appreciative, respectful)

Also, I say “Thank You Divine that I AM……..” you fill it in. My friend Angela Bear at Angelabear.com taught me that one.

There are infinite words to choose from that will fit you and your personal law of attraction choices. You may be surprised at how easily they flow. Once you understand how the law of attraction works, it’s an easy thing to be aware of what you attract and purposefully direct and control your thoughts.

When I finish doing my affirmations I am usually ” walking on air” and even though I may have walked 5, 6, 8 miles or more, I usually feel incredible.

There is one more thing I have added that I do and that is Ho’oponopono. (If you have read Joe Vitale’s Zero Limits, you are familiar with this process and if not you can find it on YouTube.) I focus on loving my perceived weaknesses and any judgments I find, saying:

  • I love you
  • I’m sorry
  • Please forgive me
  • Thank you

I do that for about the last five minutes. Sometimes I do it first. I change the order around and you will too. This prevents stagnation.

A few things I learned not to do:

  • I don’t think. I flow.
  • I don’t walk with a full stomach. I digest.
  • I don’t walk when I am over tired. I sleep.
  • I don’t walk if I have a pressing commitment that is conflicting with my routine. I schedule around my walk when possible or I walk later so I can relax and enjoy.

Remember to bring water for the walk back.

This will help prevent running out of energy at the end of your walk. I have had to stop and find water many a time because I get really dehydrated at about the four mile point. Hydration is crucial. Sometimes you then have no controll over what kind of water you are drinking. You just need water now!

Also, I bring a fresh plum, peach, apple or banana for my longer walks. Carry a small backpack with the water so you can keep your hands free. On long walks it feels really unbalanced to have to carry something in one hand or the other. I am not a proponent of carrying weights while walking.

Not to be forgotten; stretch before, midpoint, and especially afterward to reduce sore muscles.

The very best thing for any tightness the next day is to stretch and walk again. You may increase or decrease distance but stick with your two mile round trip goal at the very minimum.

Not only will you get very healthy, experience accelerated feelings of fitness, and a new energy level after the first week; you will also be happier and well on your way to using the law of attraction to bring you everything you affirm everyday as it becomes part of your muscle memory and ongoing state of mind. Does that motivate you? It does me!!

At this point after months of walking and saying affirmations I often hear them in my head when not walking. Two more of my favorites recommended by one author I favor are these:

  • I make good decisions.
  • My subconscious is my partner in success.
According to John Kehoe, the author of Mind Power into the 21st Century, these two statements consciously aligned with have enormous power to change your life.

I personally believe that Baby Boomers are much more aware of and dedicated to health on every level including body, mind, and spirit. Walking affirmations targets all of those levels accomplishing a vast array of uplifting and empowering thoughts and benefits.

My walk is purely “ME” time and I dismiss any stressful thoughts that arise during that time by immediately putting my focus on identifying objects in nature along the way to stay present and peaceful.

Try affirmations while you walk.
